At Learn Fresh, we believe that learning should be fun for all students. That belief drives the work that we do every day in communities across the country, particularly those serving students of color from low-income families and other populations traditionally underrepresented in STEM careers.

Our first program, NBA Math Hoops, is centered on a board game, 12-week curriculum, and mobile app, built to engage 4-8th grade students in math through the game of basketball and the statistics of their favorite players. From the beginning of the season, educators and students participate in program trainings, special events with pro athletes, and regional championship tournaments. Each year, the nation's best Math Hoops participants even compete in a National Championship!

In the program, our students engage in mathematic and social emotional learning that will serve as a foundation for the rest of their academic career. The experience will aid our Math Champs as they analyze college financial aid, ensure that they can negotiate their first salary, and help them navigate their first car loan. From analyzing statistics to negotiating with teammates, students are exposed to core skills that they will need for the rest of their lives.

Since 2012, over 65,000 students across the country have completed more than 38 million math problems through the program. A 2016 American Institutes of Research study showed that students’ math scores increased by an average of 36.7% while participating in NBA Math Hoops.
